The Lanyang Plain is embraced by lush mountain ranges, with steep cliffs rising like silent giants guarding the land. These towering peaks store abundant, pure water that gently flows down from their peaks, weaving through the plains into a patchwork of fields. Layer upon layer of rice paddies sway in the breeze, shimmering with golden-green light.
From a high vantage point, one can gaze into the distance and see the sea stretching beyond the mountains—where sky and ocean blend into one. Waves sparkle in the sunlight, and now and then, a lone boat gently glides across the water, rippling through the still, blue expanse.
In the exhibition, treasures from the National Palace Museum are displayed one after another—jade mountain sculptures, porcelain painted with countryside streams, and artworks featuring the imagery of boats. Each masterpiece invites the viewer to drift into imagination, gently linking art with landscape, and evoking the serene beauty and quiet charm of Lanyang.

In Taiwanese, the word ‘tsìn suí’ means ‘beautiful’ or ‘lovely’—a fitting description of Yilan, a land shaped and nourished by water. The prehistory of Yilan stretches back over 5,000 years, when early inhabitants first settled in this fertile region. These early peoples were skilled at using water resources, not only for gathering, hunting, fishing, and farming, but also for actively trading with neighboring communities.
Archaeological sites such as Wanshan, Blihun-Hanben, and Kiwulan have yielded a wealth of stunning artifacts: finely carved jade earrings (jade rings or jue), charming clay figurines, lightweight pottery with geometric impressions, exquisitely carved bone knife handles, and woven fish-shaped ornaments wrapped in metal wire. Buried for hundreds to thousands of years, these precious relics reflect the brilliance and creativity of prehistoric Yilan culture.

The “Lanyang On-Chain: Generative Art Co-Creation Project” invited residents who currently live in, or have once lived in Yilan to join a series of workshops and create “Lanyang Landscapes” inspired by the artifacts presented in this exhibition.
By using algorithmic generative programs as the creative medium, the project transforms each participant’s impressions of Yilan into works that are not fixed images but dynamic, ever-changing visual frames. These shifting forms capture the subtle differences in how each creator remembers and experiences their hometown. Through blockchain technology, the generated outcomes are permanently recorded on-chain, becoming an enduring part of Yilan’s digital memory.
Feel free to adjust the parameters and click the generate button. You will see Yilan through the eyes of its people: the colors of its mountains and sea, the mythic landscapes filled with extraordinary beings, the beloved flavors of Yilan duck, the familiar silhouette of Guishan Island when leaving or returning home, the changing scenery after the Snow Mountain Tunnel opened, and the future imagined with the arrival of the high-speed rail.
